classrooms for sale
This essay was a lot like the last essay, own this child. I agree that classrooms should be for sale because some schools are not funded enough to provide the students with enough school materials. At the same time, i think its wrong because they are letting the students become obese with all the fast food and sodas that is available. When i was in high school, i remember after my freshman year, they got rid of sodas and started selling water, vitamin water, and gatorade. I thought the them putting covers on textbook was unusual because i never had any advertisements on my books when i was in high school. I think its weird having the school cover your textbooks with advertisements, but not when you put them on yourself. I also remember the high school football team being sponsored by nike. I think this advertisement isn't bad because it doesnt really affect the students. They were just promoting their equipment because i think that under armor was catching up.

Blog #4
Writing these blogs have been getting comfortable and simple for me to do now. I remember my first blog here, i would go back and re-read it and add or take off parts. Now, it's just a normal easy routine to do. I was bored this weekend and i found myself making a myspace page, which i thought i would never do. I guess I'm starting to feel more comfortable talking online. Anyways, back on subject. I can't wait to start on the social action project. I think it is going to be a great experience on whatever topic we are going to pick. I still like the idea on helping animals at shelters and creating more awareness about spaying/neutered and much more. Some other good ideas that i liked that were talked in my group was volunteering at a food bank and teens with drug abuse.

blog 3
This week, we talked more about the freedom of speech. Stanley Fish has strong opinions on 9/11 and i think it's okay for him to voice that out. I feel he can talk about whatever he wants in his class as long as he is not urging or embracing his viewpoint. In his paper, he says that the moment a professor does embrace and urges it, academic study has ceased and been replaced by partisan advocacy. Everyone has their own opinions and no one is forced to change what they think even if it's a professor.
For the group social action project, i would like to do it on something that would help animals. I saw a couple of you talk about getting more pets spays and neutered and make people aware of this issue. I think that there are too many pets out there that can not find homes. It sad for the pets who don't get adopted because some will be put down or will live an unhealthy life. Maybe we can work together for those who want to do this topic. :)

Reflection #2
The topic discussions in this class have been very interesting so far. I enjoy reading about the topics that people have strong feelings for because we don’t really talk about it in other classes. From the two essays that we read this week, I enjoyed reading the essay by Derek Bok more. I liked the argument he talked about when he mentioned what happened at Harvard. Two students hung Confederate flags in public which made some students upset. Although we have the freedom of speech to express ourselves, I feel that there is a certain extent as how far we can go. I think that there are certain times where people should keep things to themselves or watch what they are going to say.

week 1 reflection
The first two weeks in this class was not what i was expecting. I thought it would be like other English classes where the teacher would talk most of the time and students would not interact as much. I did not expect that there would be a lot of verbal talking, but just writing about different kinds of topics. I like Lauren's teaching style because not only will it help me improve my critical thinking, but i think it will help me with my shyness. I enjoyed listening to the debates that we had so far and i feel like i can learn a lot from my peers. I am not great at giving my thoughts and opinions, but i hope this will change throughout this critical thinking class.
