classrooms for sale
This essay was a lot like the last essay, own this child. I agree that classrooms should be for sale because some schools are not funded enough to provide the students with enough school materials. At the same time, i think its wrong because they are letting the students become obese with all the fast food and sodas that is available. When i was in high school, i remember after my freshman year, they got rid of sodas and started selling water, vitamin water, and gatorade. I thought the them putting covers on textbook was unusual because i never had any advertisements on my books when i was in high school. I think its weird having the school cover your textbooks with advertisements, but not when you put them on yourself. I also remember the high school football team being sponsored by nike. I think this advertisement isn't bad because it doesnt really affect the students. They were just promoting their equipment because i think that under armor was catching up.

Yeah, I actually think its weird to have ads on book covers too, although in my year, during middle school, it was fairly popular to cover books with the blank side of brown grocery bags: that way we could draw on them. Heh. Though a lot of people had those weird elastic-ey ones too in painfully saturated hues.
ReplyDeleteI think most of us agree that a balance between the two scenarios is the best option. However, I think the most positive outcome would result if schools accepted money from select sponsors. I think Nike is a good sponsor because it promotes athletics and health. I think McDonald's is a bad sponsor because it promotes the opposite. If schools were to be more selective about their sponsor options, I think they could silence this debate.
ReplyDeleteHi Vu,
ReplyDeleteYou raise a good point about how high school sports are often sponsored. I wonder if people see sports sponsorship differently than they do sponsorship of an entire school?
i dont really see anything wrong with having nike sponsor a football team. but i do think its wrong when coke is sponsering a school and there's coke vending machines all over the school..i think that's what cory was saying?? this bring something into my mind..i think its really interesting that this country has such great universities where people from all over the world want to go to them, but such a horrible k-12 system
ReplyDeletei dont see anything wrong with having sponsores and i dont think the students being obese has anything to do with the company i mean yes they want it almost every where in school but its also the students choice if they want to get the food no one is making them buy it it just there for looks so that the school can get money
ReplyDeleteI remember that my 5th grade book had a textbook cover of these colorful little monsters called pokemon.... thus the mania ensued. It's true that schools should at least attempt to focus on healthy products for children, but when your using the same textbook since 1990 in a class in 1998, you'll need some textbook covers, and little something extra ;)
